School discipline must evolve to meet the demands of the culture of its students while allowing students to be catalysts of conflict resolution. Most schools still operate under the premises of progressive discipline, which is a violation of students’ rights. In the restorative justice era of school discipline, students, faculty and staff must receive training on RJ content that revolves around student-centered discipline such as peer jury, peer mediation, community service and student agency. The Next Gent 21st century discipline approach identifies school-wide restorative practices as its first resort, and it utilizes discipline as a contingency–virtually making exclusionary discipline obsolete.
